Would you like fresh herbs available right outside your kitchen door?
March and April are good months to make a plan for your new herb garden. You don’t need a huge amount of space for an herb garden. You could use a large pot, for example, a 5 gallon pot with dimensions of 14 x 10.2. You could purchase an inexpensive raised bed garden planter or purchase a vertical garden planter. Fabric planters are available and come in a wide range of sizes.
Things to consider are:
1) Pick the right containers. You will have the greatest success when you use pots with adequate drainage.
2) Fill pots with a good quality potting soil. Fill your pots with potting soil (not top soil) or a combination of potting soil and aged compost.
3) Harvest regularly. Harvesting frequently encourages fresh growth.
4) Water consistently. If you’re new to herb gardening do a little research.
5) Feed occasionally. To promote healthy growth, feed your herbs with a fertilizer suitable for edibles.
The six best herbs for container herb gardens are: Basil, Greek Oregano, Mint, Parsley, Rosemary, and Thyme.
