September 1st-October 3rd

[All Ages]

“In turbulent times, books are tools that help people navigate the world around them. Intellectual freedom and access to information uplift people in crisis and during more peaceful times, so the Banned Books Week Coalition invites you to champion the right to read during Banned Books Week, September 27 – October 3, 2020!” (American Library Association). This past year, and every year, people across the country have tried to censor what others can read by challenging books in order to get them banned from schools, libraries, and communities. Banned Books Week is a celebration of our freedom to read and access information.

Every day starting on September 1st and ending on October 3rd, the Lansing Library will post a video about a book that has been challenged or banned in the U.S. It is our hope to express how important it is to seek and understand information.

Make sure that you join us on our Facebook (Facebook.com/LansingPublicLibrary) or YouTube (Subscribe to Lansing Public Library on YouTube) each day in order to see the banned book of the day!
